Offences by degree
Offences on traffic rules and vehicle registration regulations are classified into 4 degrees. The higher the degree, the harsher the penalty.
The Royal Decree of 30 September 2005 determines the degree of violation of the provisions in the following regulations:
- The Royal Decree of 1 December 1975 containing general regulations on the police of road traffic and the use of the public road (traffic regulations);
- The Royal Decree of 8 January 1996 regulating the registration of commercial plates for motor vehicles and trailers;
- The Royal Decree of 20 July 2001 on the registration of vehicles.
Offences on provisions to which no degree has been assigned are first-degree offences.
